Stripes in Ya' Life

I'm probably behind the trend on this one but it's okay.  At least I know my love for chevron stripes is a lasting one.  I finally got around to making my very own chevron stripe rug ala this tutorial.

I followed High-Heeled Foot in the Door's instructions pretty much exactly.  I got my fabric from Fabric.com and it is a light/medium weight canvas duck.  If you don't want to order online most fabric and craft stores carry it in solids and prints.

One note I would add that those of you versed in homemaking probably won't need is that rug pads are smaller than the area of the rug that they serve.  I was expecting a 4 x 6 pad and it was considerably smaller than that.  I still tossed it under my rug and it does a good job keeping it in place.

It's awesome and I love it even if Wes did get dizzy while helping me layer and stitch it together.  The pattern kind of lures you in.  It's also surprisingly cushy since I decided to spring for the fifteen dollar rug pad instead of the eight dollar one.

It adds a certain something to the living room.  I'd post a better picture but to be perfectly honest, I only cleaned the necessary parts to take this one, lol.

Prioritizing Projects

We have a family weekend coming up and I think it might be the perfect opportunity to get some home projects started.  I'll have Wes around all weekend to be the muscle and to execute my orders.

I like to give orders when I attempt something new.  That way, if it goes all cockeyed it's not really my fault.

I also have been picking up some great ideas on my daily blog rounds and I can not wait to try some of them out!  In fact, there is so much great stuff swirling around in my head these days that it is a little difficult to decide where to start. 

There is also the question of project storage.  Since a lot of my raw materials are refugees from the wedding they literally have no place to go until I make something out of them.  So the question becomes, do I go room by room or do I prioritize emptying the big box of junk that is currently located in the Kid's room?

Room by room would satisfy my secretly orderly soul, but I think I might have to just tackle the big box o' stuff first.  Kid needs room to play right?

Right.

I Could Totally Do That!

Does the internet ever convince you that you can do all kinds of things that reasonable people outsourced eons ago?  Oh it doesn't?  It's just me?

Well okay then. 

Anyway, I was perusing Apartment Therapy the other day (Felt Food! Home Hacks! Hipster Shelter Style!) and I saw an article about making your own cheese. I saw that and thought, despite my miniscule kitchen and lack of damn near all the necessary tools, how awesome.  I could totally do that.

Now friends . . . this attitude has gotten me into trouble before but I never ever learn.  Matter of fact, I've created a bookmarks folder full of projects the internet convinced me I could do myself.  It's been mostly awesome so far.  For instance, I now manage my own haircare and save at least sixty bucks a month--thankyouverymuchyoutube.

But now . . . I'm getting ambitious.  Did you know that you could make your own ginger ale at home?  It's easy!  Just don't use a glass bottle because it can explode.  And don't let it ferment too long or you'll have made real get you pulled over and arrested alcohol . . .  and you get my drift.

This could get messy.  And dangerous.  And maybe illegal?  But definitely interesting.  I have a long, long list of s@#) to try. 

It'll be fun!

I haven't tried cheesemaking yet, but I already have the title of the post I'll be writing once I get around to it.  Fun With Raw Milk!
