Nothing, and I do mean nothing, went as planned on our wedding day. It's an epic tale of personal despair, lost luggage, emergency room visits, sleep deprivation, and crankypants five year olds. I just don't feel up to talking about it yet.
Don't get me wrong. Despite the things that went wrong, it was still a beautiful ceremony and a beautiful moment. I just never, ever, ever want to do it again. Maybe not such a bad feeling to have going into a marriage.
What I find myself dealing with now is a big box full of unfinished and unused wedding items and only a handful of receipts. What to do?
Some of it will definitely be returned. However, some things are just begging to become something else.
Stay tuned, we'll see what kinds of things I come up with!

Project Wedding Dress-Fitting the Skirt
My last update concerned creating my custom dress form.
I've already put it to use and I have to say-it's awesome.
I reattached the bodice to the skirt and placed it on the form to check the fit. My major goal in fitting the skirt was matching up the side seams. I will need to add more fabric in the skirt front to make that work.
You can kind of see how I did that in the center front. I slashed the skirt muslin and and spread it until the sides fit the way I wanted them. Then I covered the slash with as scrap of muslin that I taped into place. (Yeah, I'm professional like that)
Check it out.
It's actually starting to look like a wedding dress right?
Now that I am pretty much done fitting the bodice, I started experimenting with where I'll place the detailing. My inspiration dress has a pleated cummerbund that circles the waist. I taped some fabric in the front to get an idea of what that might look like.
I also need to shape the upper edge of the bodice. These curves definitely need smoothing.
Once I work out the kinks on this muslin, I'll take it apart and use it to redraw the pattern pieces. I also have plans, probably really over-ambitious ones, to add an inner corsolette for further support, steel boning in the lining, and maybe button looping on the back closure.
Then, I'll probably make another muslin, this one nearly complete so that I can practice some of the detailing and finishing techniques I would like to use and perfect the fit closer to the wedding date. I will also experiment with a sleeve option involving lace.
What do you think?

Love in Real Life-How We Met
I always feel this moment of awkwardness when people ask the whole "so how did you two meet" question. Why? Because Wes and I met online and people still kind of give us the side eye. Like . . "oh y'all met online? Hope he's not crazy." Usually I just try to gloss over it to forestall the whole "Reeeeeeaaaaaalllly?" response that I usually get. Mostly because it then becomes a way more involved story than "oh, we met in college, blah, blah, blah."
In any case, it has been almost three years and I can safely say he's no crazier than the rest of us and definitely not crazier than me.
I wonder why this kind of socially awkward weirdness even exists. I mean, people meet online all the time right? Or so those match.com commercials would have us believe. I actually know a few people who have developed real relationships this way. It's so normal now that it's not actually weird, yet . . . the weirdness.
In an effort to get over my own awkwardness I have decided to just lay it all out there. I actually considered writing this out and using the text as the background for our wedding invitations. Since I can't seem to resist telling this one for comic effect, though, I decided to save it for some other forum. Like our wedding website. And, potentially, our wedding programs.

Love in Real Life
Boy met girl . . . at the Mall.
Actually, we met on Myspace but that sounds a little skeezy. It was completely innocent though, or as innocent as a gentlemen complementing a young lady's picture on Myspace can be. We emailed back and forth for a week or so, then moved over to Yahoo Messenger for another couple of weeks before the fateful moment.
Picture it, September 1, 2008 at the Northwest Arkansas Mall in Fayetteville. It was Labor Day, neither of us had to work, and we were both supremely bored.
It was an "eh, why not" moment.
We decided to meet for the first time in real life at the mall. You know, just in case either of us turned out to be ax murderers or dirty old men. I met Wes at the bookstore. We were both wearing red shirts and glasses. He was bald and not necessarily on purpose-think George Jefferson. I was wearing a headband in a vain attempt to disguise the fact that some of my twists were missing in the back.
And, this is funny. As it turns out, neither one of us has ever killed anyone.
The rest, as they say, is history.

My New Breast Friend?
This . . .

. . . is awesome.
You know how I like to blather about things changing my life or things that will change your life, well, this is for real. Why have I wasted so much time and money on traditional bras that groove up my shoulders and don’t do much support-wise? Why did I just get kind of annoyed whenever my granny suggested I invest in a longline aka girdle?
Well, friends, I have granny boobs and I like it.
There I said it.
I bought this for the wedding but I think I kind of love it. This is a bra that I can do jumping jacks in . . . (if jumping jacks were a thing I would ever voluntarily do) something I wouldn't dare to do in a regular bra. The support is so awesome that I'm test-driving it at work tonight.
Is this the start of a beautiful relationship? Or am I just being led on? I don't know. . . .
SUSPENSE!

You Want to Get Married Where Now?
This is beautiful.
This . . . not so much.
That's what we will be working with come wedding day.
The mill pond, the falls, and the river shoals are gorgeous. The group shelter where the reception will take place is . . . pleasantly nostalgically campy. It brings back fond memories of Girl Scout camp and bug juice.
We aren't really going for campy but . . . campy means s'mores of which I am inordinately fond thus making it fit into our subtheme of "S$&% We Like" . . . . so probably we will just roll with it. The pluses: It is a somewhat secluded building that has air conditioning, a full kitchen, a private bathroom, there are tables and chairs included, and there is a covered fire pit in the back.
We picked the state park itself for two reasons. One, it's one of our favorite places to go. You can wade in the shoals, it's peaceful and beautiful, and listening to the falls is incredibly relaxing. Two, it is, drumroll please, AFFORDABLE! Any bride who is getting married in the Athens area could probably give you chapter and verse about what venues cost. On our budget it just wasn't happening. The cost of reserving the venue for the day plus paying for parking for our potential guests would still come out to about one fourth of what just time in another venue in the city would cost.
By the time the big day rolls around there will be plenty of green and if we do the ceremony bit by the water we won't need much in the way of ceremony decorations. The interior is going to require a little bit of TLC.

| The Kitchen Area and Restroom |
There are concrete floors, those really super attractive huge grey trash cans, the kitchen is open to the rest of the space . . . and yeah. The interior will need some work to make it look like anything other than what it is.
Can it be done? Well, we'll see.
